the technology is what makes things happen...

There are a range of different technologies that can be used to improve the functionality of your site, enhance the user experience, create interactivity and promote your products or services.

These are traditionally separated into server-side and client-side.

server-side

Server-side technologies are those that take place on the server to produce pages that might interact with databases, email systems, server file systems and user choices.
There are a range of such systems (commonly referred to as scripting languages) that we develop for:

The most common scripting languages on servers are Perl and PHP due to their low-cost and degree of functionality in the context of Linux servers - which are also relatively low cost. These two languages probably have the the highest degree of functionality and flexibility of all the web-based languages.

Also fairly commonly found are Active Server Pages (ASP) which are "native" to Microsoft™ server systems.

Less common but our favourite is ColdFusion. Available for a range of operating systems this system allows for very rapid development of applications.

client-side

Client-side technologies are those where all the processing takes place within the browser itself, or via a plug-in. There are various technologies that fall within this description, two of the commonest being javascript and FlashTM.
Other examples include Virtual Reality Modelling, Shockwave and various media players - although some of these rely on server-streaming for best results so could be classified as hybrids.
