working together

--+--

For medium and large sized organisations, distributing and sharing information can be greatly enhanced by using a web based approach.

Many functions can benefit by allowing scattered staff to share information in a collaborative manner.

Reduce replication and repetition.

examples

With the right sort of intranet/internet server it is possible to design systems that can help manage activities such as:

+ room/facility bookings
+ leave requests
+ training and competency monitoring
+ progress tracking
+ even time sheets and billing

It should come as no surprise that we use a web based timesheet recording and invoicing system ourselves, on an intranet that can not be accessed externally.

making it work for you

An example of a management type system we have set up can be viewed at:

www.nottingham.ac.uk/~stzintra/riskassessment

Please note that while you will be able to preview forms you will not be able to submit them
as that right has been limited to computers within the organisation.

While it is not especially pretty (aesthetics were not a design consideration), and possibly not very exciting to most, it does illustrate how a server based web application can be used to manage information from a large number of people.
There is a password protected administrative area in which the safety officers can approve, edit or delete submitted items.
This is a databased system (MySQL) which is accessed via PHP pages on a Solaris Unix system.

We have a range of other information management systems we have developed on various server systems, some of which are highly secure with rigorous security systems for sensitive information.
All such systems are designed so that local managers can maintain the information for the benefit of themselves and associated users.
