Commonly abbreviated to ASP, this type of page is found solely on
Microsoft based servers (NT or Windowas 2002), although a version of ASP created
by Hot Chilli is sometimes found on Linux/Unix servers.
These allow for considerable interaction between the user and the
server. They can be used for reading/writing information from/to
a variety of sources including: cookies, files, databases and email.
One of the most basic uses of ASP is to allow one file to be included
within another file. This can be particularly useful in web page
design. For instance consider taking the main menu of your site
and placing it in a file that is used by all files in your site.
That way if you want to change the main menu you just have to edit
one page.
The maintenance of your site simplified at a stroke !
